Mac App Store
Steve Jobs announced the forthcoming Mac Appstore today. The paradigm will be the same as the well known Appstores on iOS devices: one click shopping, immediate installation and notifications on available updates.
From a users point of view I like the idea of the Mac Appstore because it may become the go to point when I´m in need for an application for a certain task. It spares me the hassle of wading through a huge amount of search results on google, bing or whatever I use for web search and reviews and direct comparison of different apps are an added bonus.
From a developers point of view it´s an additional POS which comes with a lot of exposure and will be preinstalled on every machine the app was developed for. Apple obviously gets a share of the revenue just as every reseller does.
With regard to developers and users this seems to be a win/win situation. In this case it even has a third winner. Apple. They will get a 30% share of whatever is sold through the Mac Appstore thereby opening another source of revenue for the company.
As long as it does’t become the only source for Mac Applications I have no objection against a Mac App store. To the contrary it´ll be a welcome place where the vast amount of apps that is out there will hopefully be brought together and presented in a pleasant and manageable way. I´m sure a “no Porn” rule will be apply but hey it´s not like they are taking away the internet only because they open a software store.
David Hockney "Van Gogh would have loved it"∞
The iPad gets praise from artist and royal academician David Hockney. Here´s another article from Bloomberg dated April, 25th.
Hockney has been drawing on his iPhone for some time using the brushes app and and has now moved to the iPad’s bigger screen.
The quote sticking out most reads: “It can be anything you want it to be. This is the nearest we have got to seeing what I would call a universal machine.”
WePad is now WeTab∞
Steve Jobs has allready argued before that all our pads are belong to him. WePad it seems is affected by this rule.
The linked article at Techcrunch also contains a fans suggestion for a future renaming of the german Antwort to the tablet from Cupertino.

AppleInsider | Apple announces iPad sales top 1 million in less than a month∞
1 million in 28 days equals about 35700 units per day.The 3G Version was only just released on friday. Taking into account that Apple is only serving the US market at the time that´s quite a lot.
I´m curious about the figures when the iPad goes on sale in most of europe later this month.
